Unified effort urged for dengue control by Lazatin
In response to the escalating number of dengue cases, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II has called for a united front against the mosquito-borne disease. The city government is implementing a multi-faceted approach, focusing on proactive search and destroy missions, targeted fogging in affected neighborhoods, and mobilizing households to maintain vigilance.
Search and Destroy Activities
The city's strategy involves active inspection and elimination of mosquito breeding sites. This includes regularly checking and removing stagnant water in containers like buckets, tires, plant pot saucers, and drainage areas where mosquitoes lay eggs. Barangays are asked to lead in these "search and destroy" activities every 4 PM, at least every other day.
Fogging Operations
The city government is conducting fogging operations, dispersing insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes, particularly in high-risk and reported dengue-affected areas. These operations aim to quickly reduce the current adult mosquito population, minimizing transmission. Fogging will be conducted after the search and destroy activities, scheduled every 7 days for 4 cycles.
Household Participation via "Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito"
To empower households, the city has launched the "Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito" campaign. This initiative encourages residents to inspect their homes every day at 4 PM and eliminate breeding sites. It promotes community awareness and collective responsibility in preventing dengue through simple acts like dumping standing water, cleaning water receptacles, and using mosquito repellents.
The city government is also coordinating with public and private schools to destroy mosquito breeding grounds daily at 4 PM.
Uniting Against Dengue
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Mayor Lazatin II has convened a meeting with the city's 33 village chairmen to address the increase in dengue cases. The mayor emphasized the importance of public, barangay officials, and schools working together to combat dengue.
The city's efforts align with globally recommended strategies for dengue control, such as regular inspection and elimination of breeding grounds and fogging in hotspots. These measures will continue until no new cases are reported for two consecutive cycles, approximately 28 days.
The city government encourages residents to unite and take immediate action against dengue, playing their part in maintaining a dengue-free community. Remember the 4 Ts: Taoob (standing water), Taktak (damp areas), Tuyo (dry water containers), and Takip (cover containers). Together, we can combat dengue in Angeles City.
