Unveiling of a new temporary accommodation for the homeless population

In a bid to address the growing needs of homeless individuals in Düsseldorf, a new emergency shelter has opened on Stresemann Street. This shelter, run by the Franz Friends, will commence operations on April 2nd, supplementing the existing shelters on Aldekerk Street and Vogelanger Way.

The new shelter, equipped with Wi-Fi, televisions, and a supply of three full meals a day, aims to provide temporary homes for those in need. It will also offer professional medical care, with a doctor visiting on-site, and basic medical care available twice a week by trained nursing staff.

Residents will have access to hygiene facilities, clothing distribution, and an individual laundry service for personal clothing. Moreover, individual support is offered through follow-up appointments, and psychological counseling and mental health support are available.

The shelter also provides assistance with finding permanent housing, support with administrative processes, educational and recreational activities, language and integration courses, and legal advice. These services aim to address the broader needs of shelter residents, supporting their overall well-being and helping them transition to stable living conditions.

Security personnel are present around the clock at the new shelter, and there are other points of contact for answering general questions. The rooms on Stresemann Street are designed to accommodate one to two people due to social distancing rules.

The city of Düsseldorf, in collaboration with various organisations, is also working to ease the pressure on the existing shelters. The Marken Street shelter, run by the Franz Friends, will start delivering daily drinks and supplementing provisions with care packages, starting April 2nd.

The emergency shelters on Aldekerk Street and Vogelanger Way, which are already in operation, offer day stay and overnight accommodation options for homeless people in Düsseldorf. Drinks, coffee, and tea are available throughout the day at these shelters.

For the most precise and specific details, contacting the shelters or Düsseldorf municipal services directly would provide the latest information. It's a step in the right direction towards ensuring a supportive and safe environment for those in need.
