Utilization of Lolli examinations in all kindergartens and primary schools advocated by FDP

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) in the German Bundestag is pushing for the nationwide introduction of Lolli-Tests in daycare centers, primary schools, and special schools, aiming to make Covid-19 testing more accessible and less distressing for children and parents.

Grigorios Aggelidis, the FDP's family policy spokesman, believes that Lolli-Tests, which are nasal swab self-tests, could be a practical and safe method for testing children and families. Despite some discomfort associated with these tests, they have been well-received in North Rhine-Westphalia schools, where they are already in use.

However, most other federal states have yet to make plans for the use of Lolli-Tests, or are still considering their implementation. The FDP has not been reported to have cooperated with federal states to provide such tests nationwide for kindergartens, primary, and special schools.

The FDP's proposal includes a practical concept for on-site vaccinations in schools, with the involvement of pediatricians from the start. For children aged 12 and over, vaccinations should be available in pediatric and youth medical practices, schools, and by mobile vaccination teams. The FDP is also calling for parents and older siblings to be preferentially invited for vaccination when the vaccination priority is lifted, creating a protective shield around children until they can also be vaccinated.

The goal is for every child to be tested for Covid-19 at least twice a week. With the nationwide use of Lolli-Tests, the FDP hopes to reduce the spread of the virus in schools and daycare centers, and to ensure the safety of children, parents, and teachers.

The FDP's push for the nationwide introduction of Lolli-Tests comes as the party advocates for the vaccination of children as soon as possible. The party aims for full protection for children by the end of the summer holidays, ensuring a safer return to school for the upcoming academic year.
