Emotional Confession from Vicky Pattison: 'Terrifying' PMDD Episode Left Her in a Dark Place

Let's get real for a sec, folks. Vicky Pattison, the ex-Geordie Shore star, recently spilled the beans about a nerve-wracking encounter with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), leaving her questioning her capabilities.

The 37-year-old shared her story on Instagram, opening up about the debilitating anxiety, sleepless nights, and painful thoughts she experienced.

Vicky has been battling PMDD for quite a while now, and it often brings on severe depression and anxiety. The National Health Service (NHS) explains that symptoms of PMDD are often similar to premature menstrual syndrome (PMS), but they are significantly more intense and can have a substantial impact on daily life.

Signs and symptoms can include headaches and muscle pain, overeating or undereating, and experiencing extreme anxiety, anger, or feelings of hopelessness or suicidal ideation.

Vicky confessed that she faced such a rough patch that her first instinct was to call her sister, unsure of what to do next. In her Instagram post, she wrote, "It was terrifying. I rang my sister and told her I didn't know what I was going to do. I genuinely didn't know what I was capable of."

She continued, "And that's the thing about PMDD—one week, you're this radiant, optimistic, go-getter, ready to conquer the world. The next, you're entangled in a fog, convinced that you're worthless, that everyone hates you, and that the world would be better off without you in it."

PMDD often leaves Vicky lost in a self-loathing state, descending further and further each month—a struggle she shared openly with her followers.

"I'm not sharing this post for sympathy," she wrote, "but because I know I'm not alone. While reportedly 1 in 20 women deal with PMDD, due to medical misogyny, lack of awareness, and misdiagnosis, I believe that number is significantly higher."

She urged others dealing with PMDD to remember that they are not alone, regardless of what their inner voice tells them. "You are an amazing person, and the world is better for having you in it. The fog, the darkness, and depression will pass, making way for beautiful moments, happiness, success, and pure unfiltered joy."

Vicky didn't hold back against those who doubted her authenticity, sarcastically responding to trolls who accused her of faking her health challenges to maintain relevance.
