Yakutia Asthma Medicine Crisis Revealed to YA Readers: A Potential Health Issue Looming in the Region

Crisis Looms Over Essential Medications for Yakutia Residents

Yakutia, Republic of Russia - A concerning situation involving critical medications for beneficiaries has unfolded in Yakutia, as revealed by a concerned resident.

The resident, who is an asthmatic, told our news team that he usually obtains his essential medication "Singulair" from a municipal pharmacy close to his home. However, he was informed that the Ministry of Health had terminated their contract a week ago without plans for renewal. Now, all prescription medications can only be obtained at "Sakhafarma" pharmacies.

In doing so, the resident uncovered several issues with the new source. On numerous occasions, necessary medications have been unavailable, a fact evident from reviews on 2GIS. Additionally, a colleague was told by a pharmacist that some medications were being sent for purposes other than their intended use. The distribution method remains unclear, leaving many patients without their vital medications.

Moreover, the pharmacist stated that the list of subsidized medications has drastically decreased since the beginning of the year, impacting not only the resident but thousands of citizens across the republic. Many of these individuals struggle to afford the expensive medications that are effective for them.

Our correspondent reached out to the municipal pharmacy at 73/1 Petra Alekseeva, who confirmed that "Singulair" is currently unavailable. A notice posted in all municipal pharmacies indicates that the supply will last until March 21st, 2025. Any resumption of the supply depends on the results of competitive procedures, which are expected to be known by April 16th, 2025. Until then, the pharmacist has asked patients to submit prescriptions to the pharmacies of AO "Sakhafarma."

AO "Sakhafarma" has yet to provide any information regarding the situation. Attempts to reach the Ministry of Health of Yakutia were unsuccessful, with neither the press secretary nor the receptionist answering the phone.

Previously, we reported on significant wage delays in social organizations within the region. As of early January 2025, the society of the disabled, the society of the blind, and the society of the deaf had yet to receive their wages. The Ministry of Labor of Yakutia attributed the problem to a transition to an electronic budget.

It remains unclear whether the shortage of medications and potential wage delays are connected. However, economic challenges and import restrictions in Russia could affect regions like Yakutia, potentially impacting the availability of essential products such as medications. More information on this topic is needed to establish any direct connection.
